Using artificial sweeteners, scientists induced insulin resistance in rats\u2014then\u00a0promptly reversed\u00a0that resistance\u00a0with antibiotics that attacked the overgrowth of intestinal bacteria. Another\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2015\/12\/151214130811.htm\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">study<\/span> <\/strong><\/a>of mice found that unhealthy changes in gut bacteria can\u00a0lower resting metabolic rate\u2014and\u00a0lead to obesity.\u00a0The end result? Bacteria affects metabolism. While we\u2019re not\u00a0rodents, we share similar biological characteristics, and these findings highlight the critical role bacteria plays in how humans process energy.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>High Cortisol\u00a0Lowers\u00a0Energy<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Intestinal problems like\u00a0<a href=\"\/when-food-attacks\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>food allergies<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"\/is-leaky-gut-affecting-your-health\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>leaky gut syndrome<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0increase inflammation, which kicks up your cortisol levels.
