Benefits and Housing Review

Discover Benefits Your Loved One is Eligible For

Our person-centered process is for any family exploring housing options for their Loved One with a disability.

The assessment is used to identify gaps in your Loved One’s benefits and services. It is a required first step to joining our Roommate Matching Pool, where you’ll go to find compatible roommates and partnering families to create a Shared Living solution.

  • A comprehensive service review to ensure your Loved One has all the services they are entitled to (some clients have found that this can pay for the cost of the Benefits and Housing Review)
  • A follow-up consultation to identify the steps you can take now to prepare for future housing
  • A printable report for future reference
  • Access to our Roommate Matching Pool (by invitation)

During the Benefits and Housing Review process, you will explore and articulate the vision you have for your Loved One’s future. From there, we help break it all down into achievable steps and provide you with a list of what to do next to move forward.

  1. Housing options – We’ll talk about the types of living situations for adults with I/DD – provider-controlled settings, agency-controlled settings, and consumer-controlled (Shared Living) settings. We talk about the differences between each type and what benefits can apply in each situation.
  2. Social Security benefits – What is included, how to apply, how to maximize, and how these important benefits pertain to housing.
  3. State Services – States offers a range of benefits. We’ll help you understand them and decide which ones might apply to your Loved One’s situation.
  4. Section 8 – When exploring housing solutions outside the family home, a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher is the key to making housing affordable. We’ll help you understand what Section 8 is, how it’s administered, how it can (and can’t) be used. We’ll also give you guidance on how to apply and understand the concept of “reasonable accommodations”.
  5. Food benefits / SNAP – You’ll learn who is eligible for food benefits, how the program works, and how to apply.
  6. The Roommate Matching Pool – We’ll discuss our roommate pool and how it works, what makes a family eligible, how to use it to find compatible roommates and partnering families to create a successful Shared Living Solution.
  7. Remote Support technology – Technology can help people live safely and independently while reducing the need for in-person support.
